Duke This black and white hound mix is one cool guy. Born in 1998, he came to us from death row at a local shelter. Though timid for his first several months at the sanctuary, he soon adjusted into a very mellow guy. He is affectionately called “do-nothing Duke” due to his laid-back attitude. One of his favorite activities is eating—and he loves to play with rope toys. Duke has it all—looks, personality—and he’s a great kisser!! |

Bailey
spent several months
in a KY shelter before coming to Home At Last. Bailey has all of the markings
of a Rottweiler, but at half the size! Born in 1997, he has a permanent
limp due to an old injury, but it doesn’t stop him from romping
and playing with his buddies. Bailey had a family long ago, and it is
clear that he loves human companionship. He has been with us for several
years now, which remains a mystery to us because he is one of the coolest
dogs we’ve ever met! |

Casey This big black lab/shepherd mix is known around the sanctuary as the “gentle giant”. He was born in 1997 and came to HAL after he was found wandering along a major highway. He has been with us for several years now and so deserves a family of his own. Despite his size (about 80 pounds) he has always shown a love and gentleness with children. He has proven himself to be one of the sweetest dogs at the sanctuary—and he has some tough competition!! Casey came through some hard times and has blossomed into one of the most attractive and sweetest dogs at the sanctuary. |

| Thelma Lou This black and white jack Russell mix came to us in March of 2000 as a puppy when she was rescued from death row at a local shelter. She is extremely sweet and full of energy. Thelma Lou is quite playful with other dogs, and simply due to her high energy level, would probably do best with children eight or older. She’s a happy girl who greets visitors with her happy smile! | ![]() |

| Fern came to the sanctuary with her mother and eight siblings at only ten days old in the spring of 2000. They were found in a barrel in a very rural KY community where strays are “controlled” by poisoning or shooting. They have all been adopted, now only Fern and her brother Woodrow remain. These beautiful shepherd mixes are sweet, though a bit shy of newcomers since they haven’t spent much time off of the sanctuary grounds. They are full of energy, but calm down easily for one-on-one attention. Fern has always been a bit stockier than her siblings and is the most playful. | ![]() |

CoCo This chow/retriever mix is like a big cuddly teddy bear! Born in 1998, this tough girl survived for months on the streets of Frankfort where she wandered as a stray. She moved from house to house looking for help—luckily she found the house of a HAL member who brought her to the sanctuary. She has been at the sanctuary for a couple of years despite her sweet and loving nature. This energetic and fun-loving girl has only one weakness—and that’s belly rubs!! She is desperate for human companionship and a family of her own. |
