Mickey2 When this striking black chow mix first came to the sanctuary, he was so terrified of people that he escaped from his yard and disappeared into the trees surrounding the sanctuary. He made brief appearances over the next year until one day, he realized he had found a good thing. Now, he is a Home At Last Greeter and Patrol Dog, meeting visitors with a smile and letting the caretakers know if anything has gone amiss |

Mendi & Mandi These sweet, shy sisters came to HAL from a shelter-less county in the mountains of eastern KY as strays. They were found unhealthy and emaciated, but were nursed back to health by a loving HAL member who continues to visit them twice a year. These beagle mixes (approximate birth date 1997) have been at the sanctuary for several years—largely because they need to be adopted together into the same home. They are loving and gentle, and make a great pair! |

Willioughby is a special soul who came to us from out of state, in a nearly feral state. With daily attention and socialization therapy, he is slowly coming around. He is not agressive in any way, instead, terrified of the world around him. He needs an extremely quiet home with loving, patient, gentle people who are willing to continue his therapy. He appears to be a gorgeous shepherd/collie mix, and while he does not seek affection at this time, he does seem to enjoy it. |

Mia (approximate birth date 1997) was rescued when she was found abandoned at a flea market with her two pups. She was hardly an adult herself, and due to her early treatment, remains cautious of humans. After her pups were adopted, and the responsibility of motherhood was lifted, she found friends in dogs Mickey 2 and Sammy. Now this “gang” greets visitors and patrols the grounds. This gentle girl is also extremely intelligent and seems wise beyond her years. To read her full story, click here . |
