Home At Last Animal Sanctuary
  • is an ethical lifetime care facility located in rural central Kentucky. Two distinct areas make up the sanctuary: a companion and large animal section; and a 150 acre wildlife refuge, where the forest dwellers are protected from harm.
  • was organized in 1997 by a small group of animal activists. In our brief existence, we have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of animals.
  • maintains 8 dog yards (space for 35-40 dogs at any given time). The yards vary in size but some are over an acre and all include individual dog houses as well as one large denning house.
  • maintains a foster program that currently supports at least 15 cats and 5 additional dogs.
  • cares for 20 large animals, including cows, pigs, and goats.
  • cares for a small group of indoor rabbits.
  • has a trap/spay/neuter release feral cat program, combined with a low-income spay/neuter program.
  • has an active adoption program for the domestic animals.
  • is NO-KILL, including in our feeding philosophy. Animals who do not get adopted are welcome to live out their lives in peace at our sanctuary.
  • has a growing educational outreach program
  • fosters animal rescue alliances with other groups, and has begun a listserv to help improve communication between various rescues.
  • is in the process of creating a foster care program for animals who are temporarily displaced due to domestic violence. We are working with the local Domestic Violence Shelter on this.
  • Provides information and referral/counseling to the public on various animal issues.
  • has other community outreach projects (such as working with children & the elderly).
  • operates entirely on donations from kind people who are willing to offer helping hands.
