Keeping the Faith

Talk about a resourceful dog!  When the little Australian shepherd, Faith (named for a special friend to the animals in Utah), was unceremoniously dumped near a remote general store, she immediately went about the business of finding enough nourishment to insure that her soon-to-be-born puppies would survive.  Every day, Faith made her rounds, trotting from one farm store down the road to another to beg for food.  In the evenings she would go to homes along the sparsely populated road looking for handouts.  Most people obliged, but none wanted to take Faith in.  She wanted a friend.

But first, Faith had to take care of some important business--impending motherhood.  Unfortunately, Faith was pregnant when she was abandoned.  She picked a spot under an old building to have her pups.  A nice dry place it was, but the building was only a few feet from the road, and there wasn't much room to crawl under, especially for a human.  But that's just what long-time Home At Last member, Jay, did. And none too soon.  The pups were only about a day from being able to crawl out onto the road.  Surrounded by cows and a large bull, crawling through broken glass and debris, Jay first pulled one pup out.  After handing her off, he went in again and returned with three more.  Faith watched the whole time and seemed to understand that she and her pups were being helped.  Jay helped keep her calm on the ride up to Home At Last, where Faith and her little family are safe from harm and will not doubt be adopted into wonderful homes someday soon.
