We're All Kin Page 2
Like many of you, I have shared my home with dogs and cats for many years, but getting to know Oprah has helped me understand even more how precious the lives of all sentient beings are. All too often, we humans arrogantly assume that simply because we don't know or share our lives with other species, somehow those others aren't quite as important or don't have the right to be treated with kindness.
Sometimes, all it takes is simply opening our minds and hearts to an animal to understand how they love and cling to life, just as we humans do. They care for their young very much like we do, and their quiet gentle ways speak to us of simple, unconditional love. Live and let live. That's one lesson that can be learned from animals like Oprah and Harpo. Wouldn't we all be better off following their lead? Whenever I think about kindness and acceptance, I'll always think of these two wonderful animals. I never knew cows could be such wonderful teachers.
We hope you will come and visit Oprah and Harpo and all the other Home At Last animals soon. You'll see clearly what is meant by the kinship of all life and find comfort in the fact that they will never go hungry or thirsty again.
