As Lucky Would Have It
Lucky's world was once a little cage used for pigeons. As he grew bigger, Lucky desperately tried to escape from the horrific enclosure. Once, his struggle for freedom cost him half of one of his ears.
Thankfully, a kind person intervened and brought Lucky to a shelter where he was quick to make friends with the other dogs. Trouble was, Lucky liked his new friends a little too much. Whenever one of his buddies was adopted out, Lucky became extremely depressed and, according to shelter workers, mourned each loss with deep grief.
Shelter life isn't the best life for a dog, but Lucky made the most of it. Although he couldn't understand why all his friends were leaving when he had to stay locked up, life at the shelter beat the socks off life in that tiny pigeon cage. But too much time passed with no adopter willing to take Lucky, so he went on the short list to be euthanized. Lucky's days at the shelter were drawing to a close. This beautiful and friendly dog just couldn't seem to catch a break. Sadly, a day was set for Lucky to be put to sleep.
Lucky for Lucky, Home At Last received a call from Trish the day after we had placed a dog in an adoptive home. We had an opening. With the help of his special friends, Dan, Renita, and Trish, Lucky was soon on his way to the sanctuary. Here, he quickly made friends with Stanley, another shelter alum whose time had run out, and Braveheart, the alpha dog of Lucky's new yard who had also done some shelter time.
Lucky went right into the largest yard at Home At Last. He didn't need an adjustment period like most dogs. That's where you'll find him, romping and running with boundless energy and loving all his new buddies, including humans.
This very special dog whose deep feelings of attachment and friendship are always on display is still waiting for a special person, but he can rest assured that he has a home with us for as long as it takes. He'll never know the anguish of a small cage again. Here, his home is the huge wonderland of grass and trees he shares with a few special pals. Here, he will always be able to feel the breeze in his fur. Here, he will live to play another day.
